Getting started
Intabula opens a folder of plain Markdown and turns it into browsable collections. You can start from an existing vault or an empty folder — there is no import step, no account, and nothing to configure before your first note.
1. Open a vault
Download Intabula for Mac and point it at a folder. An existing Obsidian vault works as-is; so does an empty directory. Whatever Markdown is already there is indexed immediately — folders show up as collections, frontmatter keys as columns.
2. Connect the agent (optional)
The agent runs on a subscription you already have — with Claude, sign in with your Claude account when prompted; with Codex, Intabula uses your locally installed Codex CLI and its existing sign-in. No API keys, no per-token billing. You can use Intabula entirely without the agent: the views, search, schema inference, and inbox all work on their own.
3. Write, or delegate
From here, two ways to work — most people mix both:
- Write notes yourself. Create records, fill in fields, browse the table. When the same fields keep recurring, Intabula offers to promote them to typed columns — see Data model.
- Give the agent a problem. "Find open roles that fit me and set up a tracker" gets you a collection with inferred columns, a document per record, and a saved board — see The agent for what it can and can't do.
4. Keep an eye on the inbox
Schema drift, broken links, and parse errors collect in the needs-attention inbox in the sidebar. Nothing is ever blocked or auto-corrected; the inbox is where you (or the agent, if you ask) tidy up.
Where to go next
- Write safety — why agent edits are trustable.
- Linked folders — giving the agent read-only eyes on a codebase.
- Sync, sharing & iOS — the vault on your phone and shared collections.
